Well known Wexford author, Caroline Busher has been awarded the Reader in Residence at Wexford County Council Public Library Service. Caroline will bring her love of reading, her deep knowledge of books, and her writing talent to the attention of young people and families across County Wexford.

In this residency, Caroline will work with children, parents, carers, teachers, volunteers and staff in libraries, community centres and schools, and bring them with her into this new world of ideas, knowledge and experience, that can be found in literature and reading.
From this Caroline will show them where to find their own book, in their friendly local library and at the mobile library. She will also organise events, with the librarians in each library, where parents and children can explore and enjoy reading and other family literacy activities together. Throughout this residency she will design and deliver a programme of activities designed to promote literacy and enjoyment of reading and library usage with children, young people and their families.

Caroline is no stranger to libraries and has been a champion for books and reading for children for many years. She graduated with a First Class Honours MA in Creative Writing from UCD and specialized in children’s literature. She is an author with Poolbeg Press and has published two books “The Girl Who Ate the Stars” earlier this year and “The Ghosts of Magnificent Children” in 2016.

Caroline says “It is an honour and a privilege for me to be working alongside library staff in their wonderful libraries and out in the community over the coming months. As Reader in Residence I will be working to complement the amazing literacy work that is currently being carried out by Wexford Library Service”.

County Librarian, Eileen Morrissey welcomed the Reader in Residence, saying that Caroline will make a valuable contribution to the campaign to encourage all children to enjoy reading for pleasure and the many benefits that the free membership of their local library service brings.
